Android is one of the
most popular operating systems for smart phones and tablets. The user base of android applications is
also vast compared to other software applications. It is an open source
operating system, based on the Linux kernel created by Google. Due to the open
nature of Android, a number of third-party application market places exist for
Android. Android application
development professionals can make their choices to create mobile applications
as per their revenue models. So, Android Programming is growing day by
day. Students with some background of programming can easily acquire the skills
of Android Programming and can secure productive jobs or can start off on their
own. In this direction the
Placement and Training Cell, University Business Collaboration Centre, Bharathidasan University Technology Park
(BUTP), Bharathidasan University and eQuadriga Software Private Limited,
Trichy jointly organized a Free One Day workshop on “Android Application
Development” on 22nd March 2016 at the BUTP Auditorium, Kajamalai
Campus, Bharathidasan University for the benefit of the students.
Totally, 96 students
and faculty members of MCA / B.Tech / M.Tech / CSE / IT disciplines from the
University and various colleges such as St.Joseph’s College, Jamal Mohammed
College, Bishop Herber College, Indira Gandhi College, BDU Constituent College
– Orathanadu and Perambalur and Srimad Andavan College participated in the
workshop.
Dr. N. Prasanna, Co-ordinator, Placement and Training Cell, Bharathidasan
University in his address stressed the importance of creativity in the
development of applications. He said that the University stood by the side of
the students in supporting and improving their skills through free workshops of
such kind. He also said that a full-fledged course on Android Application
development with placement support would be offered by the University in
collaboration with eQuadriga Software Private Limited subject to the
requirement of the students.
Dr. Gopinath Ganapathy, Director, BUTP and UBCC in his address said that the
workshop was aimed to ignite the minds of the students and faculties to take up
mobile application development using Android environment. He said that at the
end of the day long workshop students should be able to generate ideas to
create new applications, which could be developed into functioning applications
in the near future and that the BUTP would assist the students throughout this
process. The technical sessions of the workshop were handled by Mr. L.
Varadharajan andMr. R. Hariharan, eQuadriga Software Private Limited, Trichy.
They covered many aspects of android technology and related methodologies very
effectively. Er. S. Kalaivani, Project Co-ordinator, BUTP, gave away the
certificates to the participants and observed that the workshop was well
received by the participants with intense interaction
